A reasonably flat walk with 4 steep sections,
the views along the coastline are of headland after headland stretching
into the distance.
Once again, this walk was travelled in the opposite
way to the title: It's really Bassets Cove to Porthtown!
For this walk, you need OS Landranger 203, Lands End.
Severity of walk
Porthtowan has a deserved reputation as a really
nice holiday destination. With a lovely beach and miles of local walking,
it's a good spot for one end of this walk.
Portreath has a history connected with tin
mining: Its quay was a hive of activity in the 19th Century, as it was
one of the few ports on the North Coast able to take the sailing ships.
Now both resorts are a popular destination for holiday-makers not wishing
to indulge the frenetic pace of the larger resorts.

Porthtowan is signposted from the A30 at Redruth, from St Agnes or
from Portreath. After turning off into the village, just follow the road
and pull into the car park over to the right: Unless you can find another
suitable spot!

Drive back to the T Junction at the other end of the village, turn
right and follow the road until you reach another T Junction with the
B3300. Again turn right, after a few miles, drive through Portreath (sharp
left bend and up Battery Hill), keeping to the right (you do NOT want
Pool!). After several bends and a few miles, you'll see a solitary square
house on your right, followed almost immediately by a lane on the right.
Drive down this long, contoured lane and you should see a large parking
area in front of you. If you miss the lane, you'll see the Tehidy Woods
sign on your left - then you'll know you've gone too far!
