A really nice walk for all the family
For this walk, you need OS Landranger 201, Plymouth & Launceston
area
This is an easy, nearly level walk. It provides extensive views of Plymouth
and The Sound and The South Hams. Mt Edgecumbe and its grounds is a Country
Park and is worth visiting on its own account. The walk passes through
Kingsand & Cawsand, two lovely quiet villages, and has beautiful views
of Rame Head and its chapel.
Park the first car at Rame Head: OS SX420 488
To get there from the A38 Plymouth to Liskeard: Take the A374 at Trerulefoot
roundabout, and head towards Torpoint. Drive through Polbathic, then a
few miles later, there's a hotel on the right; shortly after, a sign showing
a bend, but with a road indicated on the apex. Take this road (the
B3247) to the right, indicated to CRAFTHOLE
and continue on, to the junction with the main road in the village:
Turn left.
Follow this road for several miles; you will then see a wide viewing
area on the left, and the wonderful TREGANTLE
FORT on the right. The road then bends left with a parking
area on the left. Turn right, signposted FREATHY
and just keep going. This is one of my favourite roads, the clusters of
chalets clinging to the cliff with Rame Head behind is just magic. When
you get to a T junction, turn right and follow to the end (mind, it's
narrow!) when you will see the car park
Park the second car at Cremyll car park: OS SX453 533
Back along the road, ignoring the road to the left that you came in
on and turn right at the T junction. Follow this road for a short while,
but keep a careful eye on the left for a group of houses as you go downhill.....there's
a road here that you need to take, and it's easily missed! When you find
it, be wary; it's steep and narrow. At the end of this road, turn right
and follow until Cremyll. Ignore the car parks on your right, you need
the Pay & Display (not very expensive) on the left as you get to the
outskirts of the village.
