This then, is the reason for this website: There are many books available on walking the Coast Path; most that I have seen assume a certain toughness of body and mind - 12 to 14 miles at a time, Ha! Ha!

No, these walks are for those of you who are like us: Unfit and not quite so young, but still able to, and want to, enjoy walking shorter distances. Believe me, six miles along the Path can be a long, long way!

Each walk describes where to park each car and how to get there, details of the walk and our opinion of the walk together with our memories of that part of the Path. Obviously, they can be walked either way, our direction was decided by the wind direction; be warned, a chill wind in your face is not very helpful! If you have not done much walking previously, start with some easier sections to toughen your leg muscles, but don't do all the easy ones first. Do wear walking boots: Some sections are very dangerous without the correct footwear and they are so much more comfortable to boot! Lastly, take a packed lunch and plenty of liquid: When you are several miles from the car and hungry, the pleasure disappears rapidly.

These pages are written to try and give you a flavour of our Cornish coastline. If you can't get here (or won't), maybe this is a small consolation for what you're missing.

Addendum:- March 2000

Now, when we walked these paths, I had no idea that later, I would be putting a web site together. Consequently, I am dependant on memory, the odd photograph and maps; whereas if I had been blessed with foresight, I would have recorded everything carefully.

So, this Spring (2000), I intend to do it all again! And I am really looking forward to it!

I shall have my dictaphone and camera, my Wife and my dog..so I can construct the pages in the days following the walk...what could be better?

I will still leave in the memories page, because that's what this site is about.

I apologise in advance for the unfinished site...There are roughly 48 walks and each one takes me ages to complete (I am only allowed a limited time on the computer!); sometimes I don't do anything for days on end!

I have tried to make sure that you don't get the dreaded "page not found" error message, but you can never be sure... I will be updating this site as often as I can: Just keep watching - please!

Finally, thanks for looking in: I hope you're not too disappointed.

September 2000 update

Now the summer has almost gone, it's time to pick up my memory banks and get back to updating this site: I apologise for not continuing (not that anyone looks at this site), but there's always so much to do in the warm days of summer! This sort of thing is much better on an autumn or winter evening.

June 2002

Well, we moved from Newquay, I work all day with computers and have had enough when I get home, I lost everything on my computer (major crash)...Are these excuses enough for doing nothing on this site for over two years?

Probably not, but that's the truth.

However, I'm now trying to make a start on the unpublished walks.

I have to thank Big Graham http://www.geecee.co.uk/ for his e-mail that got me going again. Take a look at his site, it's better than mine!

June 2003

OK, so not much has happened to this site....I know, I should get out on the coastpath, but there's always so much else to do. Also, I have trouble walking these days: I have psoriasis, and I believe I have something called psoriatic arthritis in my knee. All I know is that I cannot walk uphill too far before my kneecap feels as if it's going to explode! Which is a pity, because I enjoyed walking so much. At least I managed to walk up Helvellyn across Striding Edge before this happened and that was my supreme moment - to others it's probably not much; but to me, it was my personal goal.

Anyway, this is what passes for an apology and a bit of indulgence......because I don't think for one minute that anyone would willingly read this tosh.

January 2017

Finally, I've got back to editing my website.... It's only a few years since I last looked at it! Now retired, I have a motorhome and we're away a lot. In fact we're away to Spain in a few weeks, so I don't expect to be doing much before then, but I will be more involved in future!

Autumn 2023

At last I've gone through the pain barrier to try and resurrect and improve this website. I've had a multitude of emails offering to do this for me, but I know it's only me who can finish the job, So here goes... it might be a while before improvements are published, but eventually I'll get there (I hope)
